Note 23. Income taxes
The effective income tax rate was (0.8)% for the three months ended September 30, 2026 compared to 33.1% for the three months ended September 30, 2025.
The movement in the effective tax rate for the three months ended September 30, 2026 is primarily attributable to the prior period reflecting deferred tax recognized at the Australian statutory rate on an unrealized gain on financial instruments, compared with a pre-tax loss in the current period on which a tax expense was recognized due to movements in valuation allowances against deferred tax assets and certain other permanent differences.
The Company’s effective tax rate may vary from quarter to quarter due to both recurring and non‑recurring factors, including the geographical mix of income or losses, changes in valuation allowances, stock‑based compensation, and changes in tax laws or rates. These items can create volatility in the effective tax rate because they may be recognized discretely in a particular period or may not scale proportionately with pre‑tax earnings.
The Company had no material unrecognized tax benefits as of September 30, 2026.
