Net periodic pension benefit costs for the Company's defined benefit pension plans cover certain foreign employees, union hourly employees and salaried employees. The components of net periodic benefit cost are as follows (dollars in thousands):

The service cost component of net periodic benefit cost is recorded in cost of goods sold and selling, general and administrative expenses, while non-service cost components are recorded in other income (expense), net in the accompanying consolidated statement of income. The service cost related to discontinued operations included in the table above was $0.1 million for the six months ended June 30, 2026, and $0.1 million for the three and six months ended June 30, 2025.
During the six months ended June 30, 2026, the Company recognized a non-cash, pre-tax settlement charge of $1.7 million which was recorded within the results of discontinued operations.
The Company contributed $0.3 million to its continuing operations defined benefit pension plans during the six months ended June 30, 2026. The Company expects to contribute $0.5 million to its continuing operations defined benefit pension plans for the full year 2026.
