| Segment Reporting Disclosure [Text Block] | 2. Segment Information In the fourth quarter of 2025, the Company reorganized from three reportable segments (Group Benefits, RIS and MetLife Holdings) to a single reportable segment and changed the measure used to evaluate segment profitability from adjusted earnings to net income. See Note 1. The CODM is the Company’s chief executive officer, who evaluates performance and decides how to allocate resources based on net income as reported on the interim condensed consolidated statements of operations. The significant segment expenses provided to the CODM are consistent with the categories shown in the Company’s interim condensed consolidated statements of operations, and there are no other segment expenses at a more disaggregated level used by the CODM. The measure of segment assets is reported on the interim condensed consolidated balance sheets as total assets.
