13. Segment Information
An operating segment is identified as a component of an enterprise that engages in business activities about which separate discrete financial information and operating results is regularly reviewed by the chief operating decision-maker (CODM) in making decisions regarding resource allocation and assessing performance. The Company's CODM is the Chief Executive Officer. The Company operates in a operating segment focused on the development of its drug product candidate DM199 for the treatment of severe ischemic disease. The CODM manages and allocates resources to the operations of the Company on a total company basis. Further, the CODM reviews and utilizes functional expenses (i.e., research, development and general and administrative) at the consolidated level to manage the Company's operations. Other segment items included in consolidated net loss are share-based compensation, interest income, other expense, net, and income tax expense, which are reflected in the condensed consolidated statements of operations and comprehensive loss. The measure of segment assets is reported on the condensed consolidated balance sheet as total consolidated assets.
