Segment Reporting [Abstract] | |
Segment reporting | Segment reporting The Company engages in a single activity, the exploration and development of oil and natural gas properties in the Permian Basin of West Texas, and, as such, has one reportable segment based upon the Company’s current organizational and management structure. The accounting policies for the segment, including those related to revenue, are the same as those described in Note 2 in the Company's 2024 Annual Report. Net income (loss), which is reported on the consolidated statements of operations, is the metric most consistent with GAAP that the Company uses to evaluate its performance and make decisions around the timing and allocation of capital investments and debt reduction. The Company does not use a measure of segment assets in its decision making. The Company’s chief operating decision maker (“CODM”) is the Senior Executive Team. There are no significant expense categories regularly provided to the CODM beyond those disclosed in the consolidated statements of operations.
