Accounting Standards Update and Change in Accounting Principle | 17. New Accounting Guidance Pending Adoption (All Registrants) Improvements to Income Tax Disclosures In December 2023, the FASB issued guidance which requires public business entities to provide additional income tax disclosures, including a disaggregated rate reconciliation as well as information on income taxes paid. For public business entities, this guidance will be applied on a prospective basis. Retrospective application is permitted. This guidance will be effective for annual periods beginning after December 15, 2024. Early adoption is permitted for annual financial statements that have not yet been issued or made available for issuance. Adoption of this guidance will result in including additional required disclosures. The Registrants plan to adopt the standard retrospectively effective for the year ending December 31, 2025. Disaggregation of Income Statement Expenses In November 2024, the FASB issued guidance which requires public business entities to provide in the notes to financial statements specified information about certain costs and expenses. This includes the disclosure of amounts of (a) purchases of inventory, (b) employee compensation, (c) depreciation, (d) intangible asset amortization, and (e) depreciation, depletion, and amortization recognized as part of oil and gas-producing activities included in each relevant income statement expense caption. A relevant expense caption is an expense caption included on the face of the income statement within continuing operations that contains any of the specified expense categories (a)-(e). A qualitative description of the amounts remaining in relevant expense captions that are not separately disaggregated must also be disclosed. Additionally, public business entities must disclose the total amount of selling expenses and, in annual reporting periods, the entity’s definition of selling expenses. For public business entities, this guidance will be applied on a prospective basis. Retrospective application is permitted. This guidance will be effective for annual periods beginning after December 15, 2026, and interim periods beginning after December 15, 2027. Early adoption is permitted. The Registrants are currently assessing the impact of adopting this guidance.
