Income Taxes | 10. Income Taxes The Company measures its interim period tax expense using an estimated annual effective tax rate and adjustments for discrete taxable events that occur during the interim period. The estimated annual effective income tax rate is based upon the Company’s estimations of annual pre-tax income, the geographic mix of pre-tax income, and its interpretations of tax laws. The Company updates the estimate of its annual effective tax rate at the end of each quarterly period. The Company recorded an income tax provision of $26.4 million and an income tax benefit of $7.7 million for the three months ended March 31, 2025 and 2024, respectively. The tax expense for the three months ended March 31, 2025 increased by approximately $34.1 million, as compared to the same period in 2024, primarily due to a non-deductible goodwill impairment charge and geographic mix of earnings. Due to the Company's history of impairments as well as anticipated future impairments, the effect of the non-deductible goodwill impairment has not been treated as a discrete item in the three months ended March 31, 2025. On July 4, 2025, the United States Congress passed budget reconciliation bill H.R. 1 referred to as the One Big Beautiful Bill (“OBBB”). The OBBB contains several changes to corporate taxation including modifications to capitalization of research and development expenses, limitations on deductions for interest expense and accelerated fixed asset depreciation. The Company is still in the process of evaluating the OBBB and an estimate of the financial impact cannot be made at this time. |
