| INCOME TAXES | INCOME TAXES The effective income tax rate was 25.3% and 22.5% for the three months ended March 31, 2024 and 2023, respectively. The year-over-year increase in the effective income tax rate is primarily due to a change in the mix of current year earnings between our Insurance segment and our CenterWell health services segment, as the latter incurs a higher effective domestic tax rate than the former. In addition, the prior year income tax rate was favorably impacted by the recognition of a non-taxable gain.
